Nevada is introducing a new type of outdoor destination: recreation hubs, developed through a three-year partnership between Outside Inc. and Travel Nevada. The first Travel Nevada Adventure Center, located in Boulder City, has opened to the public.
The adventure hubs, called base camps, will provide visitors with guided tours, gear rentals, and local resources for planning day trips or multi-day adventures. This will make it easier for people to explore Nevada’s outdoors year-round.
Outside Inc. and Travel Nevada have a shared vision for the partnership. Rafael Villanueva, CEO of Travel Nevada, says the partnership will give visitors the confidence to explore Nevada responsibly. Outdoor recreation spending in Nevada reached nearly $1.7 billion in 2025, with 10.5 million visitors to state parks and national recreation areas.
Robin Thurston, CEO of Outside Interactive, stated that the partnership shares Outside’s vision to “get everyone outdoors to experience healthy, connected, and fulfilling lives.” They aim to make that vision a reality in Nevada. Travel Nevada and Outside Inc. are working together to achieve this goal.

A second location will open in Carson City in early 2027, providing access to hikes, kayaks, and historical tours. They will offer a range of activities for visitors to enjoy.
The construction of the adventure hubs was made possible by a grant from the Economic Development Administration (EDA) of the U.S. Department of Commerce, with over $7 million invested in existing state-owned land. This investment has helped to create the adventure centers.
The Boulder City location provides a shuttle service to and from Las Vegas, ensuring that all visitors can connect with the outdoors. The Carson City location is seeking local businesses to partner with for gear rentals, tour bookings, and education on Nevada ecology and land stewardship. They want to work with local businesses to provide a unique experience for visitors.
Travel Nevada also offers the Neon to Nature Route, a multi-day adventure that starts in Las Vegas and runs through Southern Nevada. The route includes stops at the Hoover Dam, Red Rock Canyon, and the Nevada State Railroad Museum, among other destinations. This route provides a unique experience for outdoor enthusiasts.
