Life has played its own way, and suddenly out of nowhere the mother of a child contacts you, and claims that you are the genetic father of a child. You have known this woman once, but you never expected that you would see her again, especially not in this way. You are quite sure that you are not actually the biological father, but now the mother of the child wants answers. The past few days your mind has been running wild because you did not know what to do. Could it be true? Could you really be the genetic father of the child? What would that mean for you? All the thoughts kept you up at night, so now you are looking for ways to calm yourself again. What options do you have?
Do a paternity test
The option that will give you the clearest result is doing a paternity test. DNA home test kits are for use at home. You can simply order one on the internet, and have it delivered to you at home. Once it arrives, all you have to do is follow the provided instructions and send the test kit back to the laboratory. The scientists in the lab will then analyze the test, and soon you will know if you are the genetic father of the child, or if you are not the genetic father of the child. Does this option scare you? A home paternity test can be a scary but good option. It will take all doubts of the mother of the child away, and it will take all your doubts away as well. However, be aware that by law you are only allowed to conduct a paternity test if all involved parties have agreed to it. If, for example, the mother of the child does not approve, you are not allowed to do it.
Finding other solutions
If the paternity test does not feel like the right solution to you, then there are other options as well. One is to simply ignore the claims of the mother. If you are certain that you are not the father of the child, then sit back and see what happens. Tell the mother that you are certain about this issue, and tell her what makes you so certain. When you have good and convincing arguments, with which you can prove that you are not the father of the child, then she might take back her claims.
