For 77 years, Warren Miller has been producing iconic ski films, and now he’s posing an unprecedented question: what do top skiers and snowboarders do when they’re not competing?
The new film, Days Off, celebrates skiing for its own sake. This fall, Warren Miller’s narrator and host, Katie Burrell, takes audiences from backcountry laps to heli drops and the après in between, joining the world’s best as they slow down and rediscover the art of the day off.
A Family Adventure at Blanket Park Chalet
Marty Shaffer, founder of backcountry ski company CaPow, exemplifies how to take a day off. The film features his annual trip to Blanket Park Chalet in Revelstoke, British Columbia. Shaffer’s parents bought the helicopter-access-only A-frame cabin in 1986, a month before his birth.
“Back then, it was a bunch of granola munchers,” Shaffer said. “For years growing up, it was hard to get people to ski with me.”
He and his wife run guide-curated backcountry ski trips with their two young boys. Burrell, once Shaffer’s first employee, holds a special place in the film, as her return to the chalet was a meaningful inclusion.

“The story and the segment are super meaningful for my family because we filmed, and then ten days later, we had our second kid,” Shaffer said. “It’s special to me because it’s a story that we were able to tell at a very specific time in our life, and the magic of our family.”
Shaffer invited Burrell on the friends-and-family trip, and when she accepted the Warren Miller hosting position, she asked if she could bring a film crew.
“It’s a special time for us to be up there with family,” Shaffer said. “Working as a guide and having a small business, this is one of our only times to really enjoy Blanket with our family and away from all the chaos.”
A longtime viewer of Warren Miller films, Shaffer noted this year’s installment reflects on the importance of relationships, slowing down, taking time off, and getting outside.
Now Screening Across North America
The film includes seven other segments shot across three continents, showcasing the remote heli-skiing terrain of Alaska, the high-alpine mountaineering of Chamonix, France, the legendary powder of Hokkaido, Japan, and the pristine slopes of Deer Valley, Utah.

The journey continues through Canada’s best ski destinations—Whistler, Pemberton, and Banff—capturing the sport’s raw spirit through backcountry snowmobiling, skijoring, and endless alpine pursuit.
Burrell joins athletes and industry professionals on their days off, exploring unscripted runs, backcountry lodges, and local traditions that lie just beneath the ski industry’s surface.
